Now, what does it mean to be a metrosexual? Well, there are about a million definitions out there, but I like this one: An urban male with a heterosexual orientation who rejects many macho attributes often linked to masculinity. He adopts many traits often associated with heterosexual females and gay males -- eg expensive hair care, stylish clothes.
Okay, so it soundswell, not heterosexual, but the fact is, great hair and a stylish wardrobe have quickly become the norm for straight men. In fact, its almost as if being metrosexual IS being alpha-male now. Keep in mind that you dont have to act like someone youre not; its just about presenting yourself better. Lets take a brief look at some of the benefits of dressing well:
* Looking better to women. Hey, this ones obvious, but it needs to be emphasized. Girls love to dress well themselves, so when they see a guy who shows he took time to dress himself well too, theyll have automatic respect for him. It will make the approach so much easier. Note: girls also look closely at shoesfemale expert Maria Forleo has said that shes talked to a guy just because she admired his shoes!
* Looking and feeling better about yourself. Dressing well will automatically make you feel better about yourself, and about your chances when going out. Improved self esteem will translate into a more enjoyable time on the prowl. Even if nothing happens when you go out, you can at least say that it wasnt because of what you wore. Who wants to have the regret of dressing like a slob? You dont want your attire to be your downfall. You want it to be your elevation.
* Gaining respect from other people. People, especially girls, will compliment you on a snazzy outfit or a sweet hairdo, and believe me, it feels great to get that kind of acclaim. Youll feel a lot better going out wearing great clothes and cool hair than going out with messy, just-got-out-of-bed hair and a two-bit pair of jeans and shirt with holes in it. Youre just not commanding respect. And respect is a good thing.
Now lets look at where to get the clothes that will make you look great!
I could take up five lessons just reviewing all the clothing stores out there--and I wouldnt even be able to include all the boutiques and shops unique to your area. So lets look at what works, and what doesnt. As fashion is a fickle thing, I recommend you find a frienda female friend especiallywho is reasonably up to date with the latest trends in clothes and hair styles. Make sure this person knows what he or she is talking aboutif hes saying to go for a 90s flat-top, you might want to move on!
* Asking girls for advice is a GREAT way to approach them. So if you want to have fun and learn a thing or two, you can go up to girls and ask them what you think about the clothes someone ELSE is wearing. Youll see that if it doesnt work for him, it wont work for you If she comments on your clothing, dont take any criticism too harshly. Just the fact that youre asking will probably lead to positive comments. Asking girls for their opinions is a great way to show that YOU make good looks a priority in your life.
* If you have a female friend, you can win BIG points with her by asking her to help you shop for new clothes and a good hairstyle. Not only will she be THRILLED to help you, but youll also score big points with hershell be sure to recommend you to her hot friends, and say what a great style you have. Now THATS a true friend!
* If youre still not sure how to dress, the easiest way to learn is by simple observation. Go to a bar and see whos wearing what. See what the guys who are popular with girls are wearing, and see what the guys who are striking out are wearing. Youll start to see consistencies after a few rounds observing the nightlife crowds. Seeing what guys at parties and other social conventions are wearing is another great idea for finding the look that works.
So you know WHY its good to dress and style well. And you know how to find out whats in style. But its not gonna work if youre wearing something you feel uncomfortable in. Lets look at how to customize itfor you.
* Decide what type of clothes you do like to wear. Do you enjoy jeans? Then go for the jeans that are currently in fashion.
Wearing what makes you feel comfortable is important, because as I say in "The Art of Impressing Women," women want a man who's COMFORTABLE WITH HIMSELF. If you're acting like someone you're not, you're not impressing women--you're repelling them. So be yourself, and conform to your identity. Women love a guy who's confident in his looks and his dress.
* If youre more into cargo pants or corduroy, thats finefind a style, perhaps an urban one, that conforms to lots of loose-fitting, comfortable clothes.
* There are lots of styles out therecasual, skater, sophisticated, metro stylish, etc. Find one that conforms to your personality, to who you are. If youre a snowboarder/skater type of guy, you probably want to dress loosely. But if youre a hard-nosed banker type, a sophisticated, formal attire may work best.
* What kind of hair do you have? If its long and thick, then you definitely want to invest in some strong hair care products and style it so it stands out. If its thin, sometimes the simple styles are all you need.
If youre balding or just have short hair, never despair! Now is the best time to have a crew cut or no hair at all. Bald is in stylelook at Vin Diesel, Billy Zane, even Neil Strauss, the kingpin of the seduction community. Dont be embarrassed to show off your head.
* The most important thing with all of this is to HAVE FUN. Fashions meant to be about showcasing the best qualities of a person. Wearing clothes that you love, can describe in passion to girls, and just enjoy, will make shopping for your new wardrobe exciting, instead of a drag. You may even get to the point where you enjoy shopping with your girl. If you can invite her to go shopping with you, shell not only be flattered, but feel shes GOTTA stay with you. Every true life rock n roll television melodrama has the same scene: the unknown artist/band gives their freshly cut 45rpm single to the local disc jockey. He spins it on his top 40 radio showand a star is born. This legend has been passed down through the generations of wannabe popstars like an ancient family recipe. The ingredients may differ, but in the end you get the same glorious results: radio play equals fame and fortune.
But does this Top of the Charts fairytale still apply today in the sardonic post new millennium world we call today? Can a band in our current music scene walk into a radio station with a CD single in their hot little hands, impress and wow the DJ with their enthusiasm and chutzpa, obtain the magic and golden FM radio spins and then ride the wave of success all the way to Graceland? Well, then, I guess the real question would be, Do you believe in fairytales?
Unfortunately, the music industry, like the entire Earth, has become so overpopulated and so oversaturated with artists, music, CDs, and radio stations/shows of all kinds, that the chance of your own personal radio fairytale coming true is probably slim to none. But, dont give up on your favorite audio media outlet. Radio may not catapult you to instant superstardom but it certainly can help to push you down the path to success.
The following are a few tips that will help you to make your own music fairytale and get your music heard throughout the airwaves:
1.) Get Out Of Major Market The Top 40 Station Mentality---There was a day when getting played on a big city Top 40 radio station was like winning a gold medal at the Olympics. Bands that were chosen for play were handpicked by the voices of the airwaves whose ears were finely tuned to pick out the next new rising star. Today, things are a little different. Radio has become a huge corporation with three major conglomerates owning most of the stations in the United States. Sadly, Disc jockeys are no longer the innovators their predecessors were. Station management hands down a playlist (made exclusively of artists signed to mostly major labels) and the voices you hear on your radio are just thattalking heads animating a script. Its nearly impossible for an unknown band to break into mainstream large metropolis radio and a waste of your time and money to send packages blindly to a medium that will more than likely reject you again and again.
2.) The Specialty Show Is Your Ticket In---Still determined to get played on that hot radio station with 10 million listeners and a celebrity DJ? Well, there is a backdoor that you may be able to slip through. Its the specialty show. Many huge stations feature a weekly show structured just to highlight the little guyto showcase unsigned artists from that stations area and sometimes beyond. These shows are always worth sending your press package to, as they tend to base their playlist on your music and your credentials on not on the typical corporate artist roster. This is where you just might wow that innovative disc jockey and garner play on some of Americas biggest stations.
3.) College Radio Still Rocks---One area of radio that has stayed unaffected by the huge corporate retooling is the college/university station. Unlike companies/labels deciding what the listening audience thinks is cool or hip, college radio DJs and program directors are still setting their own cutting edges, breaking new artists, and finding the hot fresh stars of tomorrow hiding in their local clubs, coffee houses and garages. Its always beneficial for unsigned artists to send as many CDs (or email as many MP3s, if the station will accept that medium) to as many college stations as you can find. You will find stations to play you and people will be listening. This could lead to new fans, tour possibilities, and will definitely look fantastic on the radio page of your website or EPK. Whether or not it will actually make you a rockstar, it will sure make you feel like one.
4.) The Unlimited World Of Independent Radio---Back in the early days of radio, indie stations were limited to audio pirates in their basements stealing airwaves from unsuspecting Top 40 giants. Now, thanks to the internet, satellites, cell phones, iPods and cable TV, independent stations outnumber their AM/FM constituents in the thousands and new ones are created every day. Since doing a search of indie radio stations online has been known to cause a brain embolism in some, know that you will probably never be able to solicit them all in one lifetime and just relax and enjoy sending music to whomever you can, as you will probably garner hoards of airplay. Furthermore, your wallet will grow to love you as most of these stations will allow you to submit MP3s online.
Its true that the legendary story of the unknown band that got one single played on the radio and became superstars within a month is probably as outdated as the 8-Track tape. It seems like decades ago, in America, tattoos were commonly associated with bikers, gang members, and convicts. They were certainly not as popular and accepted as they have become today. The truth is, tattoos have been around for centuries. Even 3000 years before Christ, kings had tattoos to demonstrate their rank and authority. When the European explorers crossed the Pacific Ocean, they traveled to Tahiti, where many of its people had exquisite tattoos, as well as Indian Tribes, to demonstrate their tribal rite. Thus, the name tattoo was born, which in the Tahitian language means to mark.
Chinese and Japanese tattoos have become very well known for their artistic beauty and flair. A friend of mine has a beautiful Chinese symbol on her back which represents friendship and love. The Chinese and Japanese Calligraphies are exotic and mysterious which enhances the desire for these beautiful symbols. However, it is important to do the proper research of these languages as you would not like to have a permanent mark on your body which had a meaning you might not understand and later regret.
Many African cultures and tribes have been featured on the covers and pages of National Geographic and other highly revered magazines displaying their distinguished marks of family, tribes, and accomplishments. These tattoos have been around for hundreds of years. Can You Answer This Riddle?
Why riddles? Your brainpower, like your muscles, gets stronger with exercise. Here is your workout...
There are actually two riddles here. The first is the tough one, although once you find the solution (or read it) you will think "that's simple." Difficult, yet with a simple solution - that's the definition of an elegant riddle. The second one is a one of those riddles that "tricks" you.
Determine The CD Weights
You are a manufacturer of blank CDs for small recording studios. You arrive at the post office with ten boxes of them ready to close up and ship out, but you have a problem. Not all ten boxes contain the same CDs. Nine of them contain CDs for music recording, and one is full of Cds that are meant for voice recording, destined for a books-on CD company. The problem is that they look identical, and you forgot to label them.
However, there is one difference. You recall that the "music" Cds weigh 13 grams, and because different CD "blanks" were used, the "voice" Cds weigh 15 grams. You try lifting them to see if you can tell the difference by feel, but you can't.
There is a scale in the post office, but it costs one dollar each time you weigh something. You are trying to keep your costs down, so you want to make as few weighings as possible.That is the riddle. Exactly how do you use the scale as few times as possible to determine which box has the "voice" CDs?
Weighing The Silver
In this riddle, you have 15 small silver bars and a balance scale. One bar is slightly lighter than the others, and you can't tell the difference by feel. The question is this: What's the least number of times you could use the balance scale to determine which silver bar is the light one?
Arriving At Solutions To The Riddles
Believe it or not, in the first riddle, you can determine which box has the "voice" CDs in it by using the scale just once. Think about it for a while, and you'll probably figure this one out.
The second riddle is a trick of sorts. If you randomly put one silver bar on each side of the scale, you could get lucky, and one of them will be lighter. The least number of times you could use the scale to find the light one, then, is one time (watch that wording). The second part of the riddle, then, is to find the least number of times you can use the scale that will guarantee you'll identify the light silver bar.
Why not exercise that brainpower right now? These are not the most difficult riddles.
